Tanggao is an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.  He has completed two separate 500-hour yoga teacher trainings and has received more than 2000 hours of yoga-related learning.

A former dancer and a specialist in 18th-century Baroque dance, Tanggao holds a BA degree in Dance Pedagogy and for many years trained in Jerzy Grotowski’s movement-based acting techniques.  The variety of his experiences has creatively enriched his understanding of body movements.

Tanggao completed his first yoga teacher training in 2010 at Yogi Yoga Center, a branch school in Shanghai affiliated with Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute in Lonavla, India.  Upon graduation, he was offered a position to teach yoga philosophy in its teacher training program.

In 2012-13, Tanggao studied under Dominique Renucci, founder of Yoga Yantra.  Dominique’s teaching is deeply rooted in the tradition of vinyasa krama( the intelligent arrangement of yoga postures and transitions) taught by Sri Krishnamacharya.  Her teaching places great emphasis on yogic ethics, environment as well as diet.  Tanggao had completed Yoga Yantra’s 200 and 300 hours teacher training.

In 2014 Tanggao met Simon Borg-Olivier of Yoga Synergy and partook in its 200 hours teacher training in Goa, India.  Yoga Synergy’s unique blending of ancient Indian tradition and practice with western anatomy and physiology has fundamentally transformed Tanggao’s practice.

While living in China, Tanggao taught regular yoga classes in the Shanghai area as well as yoga teacher training courses at Yogi Yoga Center, Shanghai Yoga Center, and Darshna Yoga Center

In 2015 Tanggao moved to California and opened his own yoga studio two years later.  He began by offering two weekly classes “Move with Tanggao”  to share his practice based on the Yoga Synergy method developed by Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss.  And over the years Tanggao gradually incorporated his expertise in dance and movement theatre and form a practice that focuses on movement rather than postures

In 2018, Tanggao completed an additional 100-hour teacher training with Simon Borg-Olivier and became a Yoga Synergy Level 3 teacher.

Since 2019 Tanggao has partnered with Rainbow Mont Retreat Center in Taiwan and has taught workshops and retreats for four consecutive years since then.  He is planning for his first yoga teacher training course in Taiwan.

As a dancer and dance teacher, Tanggao is fluent in ballet techniques. From experience, he is aware of the way harmony in body movement influences a person’s internal state. With this new-found understanding inspired by Simon Borg-Olivier’s remarkable teaching, Tanggao has begun to incorporate his early acting training—based on the Polish theatre legend Jerzy Grotowski who aimed to create an ideal actor’s body that is free, organic, and ready to take any form(role)— into his yoga practice.

The synthesis of his years of experience in dance, acting, and yoga has led to a practice that is kind and respectful to the body while placing the mind and soul at the creative heart of healing and harmonious movement.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Tanggao started teaching online in early 2020.  In addition to his weekly classes “Move with Tanggao”, he had since then completed 2 online courses “Move from the Core” and “From Core Movement to Vinyasa” in both English and Chinese.

In October, 2021 Tanggao held his first workshop in Palermo, Sicily.
